Bark Alarms is a Proudly South African company which develops security products for the majority of South African households, with the focus on simplicity!
The original idea to develop the Bark Alarm system originated at the end of 2014 when two grade 9 schoolgirls from Bloemhof High School in Stellenbosch developed a “Smart Alarm” system especially for low-income houses as a school project. The system was based on smartphone technology and the use of “Ubuntu” as the reaction unit. This idea won them the Western Cape Premier’s Entrepreneurship Recognition Award (PERA) for best school business idea in 2015.
The father of one of these girls, Marius de Villiers, took the Smart Alarm idea and developed an alarm siren that would send verification sounds to the community when assistance is required. This was the beginning of the development of the Bark range of products available today.
